Grooming your Dog.
Whether you prefer professional groomers or to DIY, pets require a basic level of home care to keep
their skin healthy.
Overview
There are many different coat types. Each breed has a specific coat type that was genetically
selected for the dog’s purpose. In general, dogs should be brushed on a regular basis to avoid mats and remove any dust and
dander. They should also be washed no more frequently than every 2 weeks and no less than every 3 months. Human shampoos should never be used on the pet’s skin as they are a lot more abrasive than pet shampoos and can cause irritation.
How to bathe your dog
1. Brush first
2. Prepare your supplies such as a waterproof collar and leash, towel, treats, cotton wool, shampoo and conditioner, brush, non-slip surface
3. Make a bath using warm water – not hot
4. Soak the coat through to the skin
5. Try to minimise the amount of water that goes down the ear canal
6. Lather the shampoo, rinse and then repeat with conditioner
7. Towel-dry first and if the water is cold use a hairdryer on the cool setting (air drying is fine on a warm day)
8. Use the cotton wool to gently remove any excess moisture from the ears.
